Fotografiska Trip Report

Your impressions of the look and feel of the whole place. What works, what doesn’t? The building of the Musume is a historical building; it gives me a kind of elegant and exclusive feeling. Unlike other museums, the interior design is like a very intimate art salon(or more like a gallery ). I think it matches the purpose of the museum; as a photo museum, they don't need a large space for collections; the mood and the atmosphere is more important. Do you feel welcomed, is the place intimidating or comfortable, what’s the atmosphere? The whole place gives a very high-end feeling. The lighting inside is dark; only works on the wall are lighted up. The atmosphere is kind of like a private art club. I think they do want audiences to have this kind of luxury feeling. Every place has an emotional, social and intellectual gestalt. Do your best to describe it. The emotion is quite Luxury, Exclusive, High-end; maybe it's because of the building? At the same time, it is also trendy beca...

Redesign: New York Transit Museum

Image
The Museum I redesigned is New York's trolleys and buses. The primary purpose of the exhibition is to let audiences know about the development of New York's ground public transportation. For my experience of visiting there, I think the content of the development timeline is exciting and needs to be kept in my design.  But I think the whole space is kind of hard for audiences to figure out which part is what. Also, during my visit, there were a lot of parents with their kids, and the space is kind becomes the playground of kids. Big Idea I want to separate the exhibition and social areas.  The whole space is designed as the scene that you are waiting in the bus station.  Exhibition  move the exhibition part into the two actual size buses and trolleys, so audiences can learn the history and experience the actual development. I feel pity about the exhibition right now because I didn't see an actual trolley. Interactive & Social  Most of the space is a soc...

Content Mapping Design Exercise

Image
I went to the New York Transit Museum; the floor plan I sketched is the exhibition of  New York's Trolleys and Buses. Big Idea  the big idea of this floor is to introduce the development of New York's Buses ( ground public transmit). Mostly, it is like an archive of NY buses, through time and some models for audiences to experience the development.  Narratives the narrative is talking through the time. The left side of the space is the most narrative part of the exhibition. It is the timeline of the development of ground transmit from 1810 to 2000. And there is also the tech development of ground transmit (from trolleys to buses) Content The content is all about the ground transmit of New York in this part; everything here is telling audiences what ground transmit in NY looks like and how it has been upgraded. Artifacts/Interactions. The artifacts there are different size models of buses and trolleys. Also, the space of the place is well decorated with a beaut...

Future Museum

It's 2122; people all live in the metaverse. With the easiest and most wearable product, people can stay in the metaverse for as long as they want. But the real world isn't being abandoned, for a place like a museum that holds human history still takes place in the real world.  A New Form of Musume      The Tenement Museum 2122 is not a museum only held in one place. The tenement Museum 2122 is a museum that introduces the tenement around the world in 2022, different environments, different countries, different regions, different cultural backgrounds s, and different historical events. Therefore there are 100 tenements worldwide in other countries and cities; the audience can choose the closest one and visit the place in person.       Tenement Musuem 2122 in New York Take New York as an example. The Tenement Museum New York is located in Long Island City. During 2016-2022, LIC is a typical example of an emerging popular community. Man...

Science Museum Trip Report: American Museum of Natural History

Image
Your impressions of the look and feel of the whole place. What works, what doesn’t? It is one of the most famous museums in the world. The looby with a beautiful high ceiling set a tone for this great and significant place. I have been here 4years ago, even though nothing really changes, I still enjoy walking around in this place. The museum gives me a classic and historical feeling that it deserves people to visit multiple times. Do you feel welcomed, is the place intimidating or comfortable, what’s the atmosphere? I definitely feel welcomed there, even though some halls are dark, but all the exhibitions are still set up in a very vivid way. Also, I think it is a very child-welcomed museum, so there are a lot of children there, so I feel the whole place is very friendly and dynamic.  Every place has an emotional, social and intellectual gestalt. Do your best to describe it. As a famous museum, this place has already become a culture and landmark; people come here not for s...

Science Museum Virtual Trip Report : Shanghai Science & Technology Museum

Image
How are you interfacing with the museum?  Did you use a computer, VR headset, or other means to transport inside the museum? I only use my computer; the website has its own virtual trip site. It does have the VR option on the site, but it's also only made for a photo VR. And the virtual area is more like 360 photos of the different sections of the museum. How do you navigate in? What works, what doesn't? In the virtual trip site, every section is a 360 photo. I can use my mouse to control my view(very much like Google Maps). The 360 photos have some arrow that leads you to other sections that you can choose, or there is a menu that you can choose what area you want. What’s the atmosphere? Is it photo-real or stylized? Is there a video or is it all stills? It is not vivid. I wish I could have had a better experience of the virtual trip. The 360 photo has poor quality and can not see the caption on board; some sections have external caption or video demo(robort section). The...
